Join us for First Friday, this month on second Friday, as we transform the bike shop into a gallery opening. We will be serving complimentary appetizers and wine while we introduce our new artist of the month who's work will adorn on the walls of the cafe.
At age 17, the first piece of art I made that I felt was a total success was a linoleum print; it expressed what I was trying to say and was well received. I love trees and printing with woodblock feels spiritual, it connects me with the earth. Picking out a board to carve begins the process. When I lived in Jamaica I worked with native hardwoods. In the US, I use oak, cherry, pine and birch. Its the simplest form of printing, can be done anywhere and doesn't require special equipment: just a woodblock, something to carve with, some ink, paper and voila! I have been fascinated by crows for many years. They seem to come alive on wood, a natural medium for them.
